Technoid modular-synthetic music concert
Modular synth music: Kathron, DUF, Miquel Dangla, Zergon
Modular-synthetic visuals: Francesco Scarel (Wandalumen)

Entrance: € 10 Day Ticket or Festival Pass

Kathron, DUF, Miquel Dangla, and Zergon will kick off the opening night of Clockwork Voltage in a technoid mood, tempered by volleys and interwoven with the textures of the dance flows of these unique machines. In addition to the premiere of Kathron’s home-grown modules, Berlin-based Miquel Dangla will also be present. VJ Francesco Scarel from the Italian collective Hybrida will accompany the whole evening with a video synthesizer.

Modular synthesis workshop
Mentors: Ida Hiršenfelder (beepblip) and Simon Turnšek
Registration required by 25 October 2024: info@clockworkvoltage.si

Free entry!

The two-part workshop will be dedicated to the use of the synt library (Project Atol) and the VCV Rack 2 modular synthesis simulator. Simon Turnšek will bind the modules from the library into an ad-hoc patch and will explain the principles of modular synthesis. Participants will be able to move cables and turn knobs themselves. In the second part of the workshop, Ida Hiršenfelder will tie an ad-hoc notebook in the VCV Rack 2 simulator, which is freely available and allows the use of more than 1,800 modules. She will accompany the bundling with a presentation of the musical genre and technical-methodological aspects of playing music with a modular synthesizer.

Modular Marathon
Modular-synthetic music:  Monoscarves, Shape(S)witch, Alastair McNeill, beepblip, BeatMyth, Andrej Kobal, Kikiriki, Dronišnica, GX20
Visuals: Oskar Kandare

Free entry!

A marathon of live modular sets, twelve exquisite gourmet short musical canapés from the fingers of members of the Clockwork Voltage community. From knotted cables, we will be treated to a wide range of approaches to modular-synthetic music-making in an eclectic musical sequence.

Concert of ambient experimental modular-synthetic music
Modular-synthetic music: twoRoundRobins, Miha Godec in Rok Zalokar, QUINQUIS
Modular-synthetic visuals: patches for Frida

Entrance: € 10 Day Ticket or Festival Pass

An immersive journey into the noisy, ambient, and experimental waters of modular-synthetic music. Alongside the subtle landscapes of TwoRoundRobins and the fusion of Miha Godec’s ambient electronica with the piano vibrations of Rok Zalokar, we are very excited to hear a set of rich oscillating waves from French modulator QUINQUIS. Patches for Frida will also premiere with modular-synthetic analog visuals.

Modular-synthetic music: Lowlander, Shekuza, 08080, nobena
Visuals: GMB Visuals

Entrance: € 10 Day Ticket or Festival Pass

At the final club event of the festival, old friends of the club underground Lowlander, Shekuza, 08080 will be serving up dance beats from their modular machines. As always, the modular vibe will revolve around beats, electro, techno to breakbeat, deftly wrapping itself between the offshoots of electronic dance music. In the early hours of the morning, we will be treated to a DJ set by techno master nobena.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The festival aims to promote modular synthesis and to showcase artists who use unique musical instruments – sound synthesizers – for their live performances. The artists often build their instruments themselves and adapt them to their musical preferences, which is a key feature of modular synthesis.

Modules include oscillators, filters, amplifiers, modulators, envelope generators, and other components used in the creation and processing of sound with input and output values in voltages. Each module performs a specific function and is physically separated from the other modules.

The main feature of modular synthesizers is their flexibility and customizability, allowing users to freely connect and combine modules with each other using cables (in the analog world) or virtual connections (in the digital world) to create unique soundtracks and sound effects. This approach allows experimentation and exploration of complex sound textures and patterns that cannot be easily achieved with other types of synthesizer.

Modular synthesizers are prized for their ability to produce an extremely diverse and rich sonic palette, from simple tones to complex, evolving soundscapes. They are used both in electronic music and as an extension of instrumentation, particularly in jazz and free improvisation.

The festival will serve as a platform to showcase a wide range of genres and approaches to creating with modular synthesizers, from experimental ambient music exploring soundscapes and atmospheres to instrumental jazz sessions, to intense noise experiments and energetic techno rhythms that promise exhilarating and dynamic musical experience.
