Carmen

Karmen Ponikvar is a Slovenian sound artist, performer, and researcher in the field of electronic and electroacoustic music. She is currently studying sound at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague, the Netherlands.

Inspired by the gift of hearing and the practice of listening, she approaches sound with searching and curious ears. Her eccentric sonic vision and innate drive to dig up and discover adventurous records often defy genre description. Enveloped in the nostalgic aura of early electronic music, as well as contemporary genres, she has adopted a multi-layered, almost collage-like style of mixing, creating a rich and textured listening experience. Deeply attuned to the narrative nature of experimental electronic aesthetics, she creates mind-bending and sometimes obscure sonic mosaics that welcome other forms of listening, untethered from the cerebral and guided by intuition. Her sonic terrain, portraying the transmutation of one material into another, blends molten fragments of synthesized electronic sounds, modulated field recordings and human voice, all intricately woven together to create vivid portraits of imaginary soundscapes.
