Londoner Alastair McNeill, who has been living and working in Ljubljana in recent years, will be a guest at Ropotarnica XXIX. His work spans a wide range of musical expressions: performing with the group Unknown Devices, David Toop, producer Scroobius Pip, he was the guitarist for Roisin Murphy, a creator of immersive musical theater works, and has collaborated with artists on vocally manipulated ambient-sound installations. Most recently, he worked with Laibach vocalist Mina Špiler on the project Kreda. Alastair McNeill is a prolific experimenter, constantly pushing his musical boundaries, ranging from orchestral pop/electronics to techno and noise. His upcoming solo performance will focus on playing a unique, cello-like instrument (SOMA-Dvina), combined with live electronics and sound processing in the multi-channel spatial setup of Galerija Škuc. Alastair’s “naive” approach to this innovative instrument is expressed primarily through the exploration of its textures and the spatial arrangement itself.
